wirrkaru jingkiri is described as a musterer, fencer and pearl sheller (p 47). his first poem 'wiyurkarra'/'fast work', like miriny-mirinyarra jingkiri's 'wupuri' concerns horse riding. just five lines, its an interesting contrast to the long romantic ballad horseriding poems of colonial poets adam lindsay gordon & banjo patterson.

thanks for yr comments stuey; do u have any ideas of alternative layouts? perhaps the reverse: ngarla on right english on left? wd have an interesting effect as it might read as a translation from the english .. i admit i concentrated on the english also. yet it wasnt a purely left right reading .. i go back & forth - especially when interested in a particular structure or phrase.
